Hi.

I'm stuck for something to buy my dad. Usually I send daft things like aftershave or trainers and at one point shamefully bought him a Hibernian scarf!!

He's 57 this year and if anyone has any original ideas or websites I can buy something from that would be helpful.

I'd send him a case of Keo if I thought my mum would let him have it!!!!

Hi pepermint

Why not just ring him and tell him how much you love him, and how you are always thinking about him. That the best present money can not buy?

Hi Yvonne
Does your dad have any interests? Maybe you can get something related to an interest he already has or perhaps one he's pondering over..

My dad, bless him only had an interest in the bookies or pub so he got 100's of bottles of old spice off me and my 4 siblings over the years. Bet he hated it. He passed away about 18months ago and Id do anything just to be able to give him another bottle.

Marks comments are definitely wise. Wish I'd have done that more when he was here but at least I got to tell him before he toddled off to the bookies in the sky :D

His only interest is running after my 7 year old niece who has him wrapped round her little finger.

He's not a gadget man and I can't send him any sweets or chocs as my mum'll have them away!

Thats what grandads are for! :D

How about a fun present for the two of them to enjoy together? Do they still make those plaster cast kits that used to be about when I was a kid? They can have fun making something together and a reminder of your gift, wont say permanent - the monstrosities we used to make for my mum used to 'fall' off the window sill. We insisted she have them on display  well it was either making her stuff like that or Old spice!!

try http://www.iwantoneofthose.com

Lots of silly stuff and novelty type things always good for a chuckle if not about one of those red letter day things, assuming you can find something he'll enjoy ? failing that a weekend break somewhere just to escape may be the thing ?

Just a couple of thoughts...

Yvonne...does he live in the UK or Cyprus? If the UK, a flight in a glider makes a gift which is fun, different and usually appreciated. But then I would think of something aeronautical wouldn't I? If in Cyprus, how about an hour or two on a jetski? Lloyd

He lives in Edinburgh.

It'd be fab if the family were over for their birthdays as, you're right, it would be great to get them something really quite memorable to do.

I'm all in a muddle now!!!

Had a flying lesson once as a birthday present, out over the Forth road and rail bridges then back over the castle and Arthurs Seat / The Kings Park, it was incredible

I've been up in a plane once or twice & I don't mean your run of the mill 747 or Airbus kind either

I took a jollie through the Brecons in a T2 Harrier back in '& then had a wee flight in a Tornado GR3 when I was down in the Falklands, believe me when I say there's nothing else left on this planet that can scare you after that :puke

Hi Y
Alastair says if your Dad is a Hibs supporter - he needs help!
Seriously, does he like Steam Trains - you could arrange a trip to Kyle.Or a trip on the Falkirk Wheel. Or buy a Ticket for the Tattoo, or a meal voucher for a fav. restaurant in Edin. Does he like gardening? Vouchers can be sent by Klondyke Garden Centres over the Internet. Or.......... give me some of his likes etc and I'll try and come up with something.

Ruth, I've been telling him he needs help for years when it comes to the hibees!

I like the idea of getting tickets for something for him and Yas, but not sure what happens in Edinburgh anymore! (pointless adding my mum in for a ticket - she's out at work when he's at home)

Hi,

I had the same problem last night for my sisters 40th birthday, So I browsed e- bay and did a search "birthdays" And I have now ordered her a personalised song on a cd !! It includes her name, funny stories, the rest of the families names. You even get to listen to a demo !!! Think it was Jeff Songs. If your dad likes a laugh but you still want to get him something to keep, it's worth a look. Only cost about £10 so you can still add to the gift too.

TOILET SEAT LIFTER:
'Who left the Toilet Seat up?' The Peace Maker will end the battle of the toilet seat. Merely step on the pedal to activate the lifting mechanism. When finished, remove your foot from the pedal and the seat gently comes to a rest where it started.

Piglet loved the racing grannies really good.

I do hope pepperment found a few good ideas as presents for her father before we hijacked her thread, in the end he only wanted a pen :!: :!:

This one starts off with pen

PENGUIN TEA TIMER:
Making tea, though easy to do, is also time consuming. Once you pour the hot water into the cup, you must patiently hover over it, waiting for the tea to steep. Well, the Penguin Tea Timer happily does the waiting for you.
Place your tea cup under the beak and set it to the desired time. As you turn the timer dial, the beak lowers the tea into the hot water. When time is up, a bell sounds and the penguin automatically lifts his beak, removing the tea bag from the water.

And just in case one day rolls into the next one.......

DAYCLOCK:
What day is today? You don't know? Then you need a DayClock. It's uniquely designed to keep track of weekly events like your golf day, card night, movie night, and so much more. It's ideal for vacations and cruises when it's easy to lose track of the day.

I'm off to the pub before I get into trubble......
