Well if so, a quick glance at some of today's top news stories should quickly cure you of that:

1. Record numbers of home repossessions reported

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/7234254.stm

2. Call for aspects of Sharia law to be adopted

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/politics/7233335.stm

3. Britain described as "Prozac nation" due to rapidly increasing mental health crisis

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/7233169.stm

:( Now I know the media are renowned for focussing on the negatives in any society, but the list of things wrong with the place just seems to grow by the day.

On a general note, I find keeping up to date with world events is a great aid in keeping any day to day problems I might have properly in perspective! :sunny

I love the countryside in some areas of the UK. I love to hear the song of the blackbird. I miss my kids and some family members and friends. But not enough to make me want to go back there.

But do I miss the UK society, government, systems? No.

Miss the UK - that is the biggest NO going.

We were talking yesterday about going back for a week - yuk, yuk, yuk even to see family - sorry but that is why we left with all the stress that family were causing us.

Steve's first wife never let go and caused us major problems hence it was the easiest decision to make to move abroad, the biggest decision was where. So here we are and hoping against hope that we will still be here in years to come.

Nice to see we're all such a fantastically positive and fun bunch on this forum. I and Ann would never go back to the UK...for anything! Same with daughter and son-in-law who live in the gorgeous village of Mandria. As soon as we get to the UK on relative-visiting missions (when we can't put it off any longer :D ) we just can't wait to jump on the plane back. Cyprus is home...and we love every minute of it. The love grows the longer we stay here.

Take pity then on Julie A who started a thread today called "HELP please" on another Paphos-based forum. I am aware that no-one should come over here with rose-tinted specs, but I can't believe what a barrage of negative advice and criticism the poor girl has been given. 'Admin' has blocked my IP account (can't think why  ) so I can't give her any moral support. Whilst life out here isn't a bunch of roses for many young people, I know literally dozens of young couples who are working hard, making a go of it...and loving their new life in Cyprus. It helps if you have a trade, as her husband does.

On a separate note, Candy, I've been rooting for you all afternoon...and it's great to see so much support coming from everyone else on Paphos People. If not this job, something WILL turn up. As they say, it's always darkest just before the dawn. Believe it. Good luck! Lloyd

And I'm up for promotion any minute now

I'm missing Cyprus, the withdrawal symptoms set in as soon as we landed back in the UK last November.

Hope to be :leaving to a :welcome in the :sunny .

Well I can see opinion seems to be divided  so here's a couple more articles from today's news:

1. Attacks on fire crews on the increase: "such attacks have become a "recreational activity" with crews facing a daily threat of being ambushed, shot at, stabbed and abused."

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/7238127.stm

2. Headless corpse found in London

Also local authoritys are to turn off night lighting at midnight to save electric.

If I was a Fireman, I'd turn the hose on the kids, that'll soon stop them from attacking, after all, isn't that what they use to do to rioters

LOL Pete,

That's what I used to tell the police to tell the firemen to do years ago when the rioters at Strangeways Prison in Manchester had barricaded themselves on the roof.

It used to hold up my journey to and from work every damn day  So much so - I recommended the prisoners should have been left up on the roof and locked out, with the hosepipe turned on them until they cried to get back to their cells.

Think the policeman agreed too

I'd been for a visit around the prison not that many months before, when I used to work at Manchester Crown Court in the after trials office. We did a reciprocal visit so we understood how each others system worked.

Strangeways had only recently been redecorated in that "eggshell" paint that was all the rage in the 80's, they had a gymnasium, a huge tv screen, a choice of meals...... But for some reason, they still preferred to sit on the roof :?

Frank - turning the street lights off at night..... What the hell is going on :?:
