What is your pet hate/s

I hate coathangers. They seem to 'lock' themselves together and I can never just get one out without pulling them all out.

Lateness. I hate being late and hate others being late without a really good reason.

Whistlers. I hate people that whistle especially those that do it out of tune and loudly.

Comb overs. Men (classic in the bank queue) who are going bald and comb it over especially from the back to the front.

I have others but what are yours?

Tiggy

Packaging - the plastic kind that meat comes in, and anything else that could be put in a bag. Plastic bottles of milk and juice. In fact PLASTIC.

People who say 24/7.

Tardiness (again, sorry Pete).

Certain members of the family who ring up before 7am and after 10.30 pm about absolutely nothing.

Bigots and people who pretend they are something else.

Prejudice of any kind.

My list would be too long to name all of them, but a few of them have already been mentioned, lateness, people who talk down to you, never getting anything done right the first time (added that since I have been to Cyprus) and I could go on and on and on.

Well you will not like me then because I am constantly on the last minute for everything, and calling children 'kids' is a term of endearment in my eyes

What I really hate is spitting, beyond anything I do not understand why anyone has to spit on the floor

I hate reckless driving local style also, I must have 2 or 3 near misses everyday just on the way to school

That will do for now :D

Chez I can understand the driving hate especially if you have child(ren) in the car. Steve said to me yesterday that it has been recognised that Cypriots are the worst drivers in the world - not sure how true that is.

Meeting people for the first time and knowing within 30 seconds, how much they earn, what car they've got, how big a house they have and other materialistic nonsense and I haven't actually said hello yet!!

People being rude.

Probably the biggest I have is the way I see some non UK & non Cypriot people being treated like a sub class. I dislike immensely that 2 able bodied people doing exactly the same job are paid differently because of where they come from.

People who address my wife and I as 'Guys' - Grrrr!
Lateness - is the height of discourtesy, especially if you are doing someone a favour. It says that their time is more important than yours.
People who complain about Cypriot drivers then drive themselves after having a skinful of alcohol.
People who telephone my house or mobile touting for business.
People who stop me in the street for the same purpose.
'Friends' who only contact you when they want something.
People who say 'less' when the mean 'fewer'.
Bad manners.
and worst of all, people who smoke in restaurants.

I can agree with a few of you above

SPITTING - dirty, nasty and disgusting

Someone asking me a question and not even waiting for an answer, they just carry on talking(I know several people like this and I really hate it).

Assumptions - when people say "I think you should..." Hello, I do have an opinion and if I wanted someone else's I'd ask.

Unannounced visitors - oh definitely top of the list, even though I wasn't trying to put them in order.

People befriending you for a reason - living here has taught me a lot about people and I am far less naive than I was when I arrived.

I should stop now as I feel a rant coming on....

Anyone who continually answer calls/texts on their mobile when in the middle of a conversation with me. If they want to talk to someone else and not me than why don't they buzz off and do so (I don't just think this, I tell them it's the height of rudeness) !!!!

Rant over

PS: Does giving up smoking make you aggressive because that could explain the last 7 days to all who know me!!

Oh, just remembered another thing that really p's me off beyond belief

Dog Poo

What is wrong with people who think it is ok for their dog to s**t in fields, parks, foot paths, beaches in fact anywhere, and not clean it up.

As far as I am concerned if you have a dog and you want it to s**t freely, then do it in your garden and not on my path or local park.

Oooohhhh I feel so much better now

Coming from the Black Country I say kids and ta.  Made me laugh.

Peppermint - spot on with the people who are insecure enough to have to tell you what they own.

I really hate passing my debit card over to the cashier and then having it slapped onto the counter instead of it being handed back to me. Just plain rude.

I dislike people who are full of their own importance.

People who tell you about the good deeds they have done for others. Similar to the previous one, but not the same.

I love seeing people, but I hate being dropped in on unexpectedly - it encroaches on my personal space and I get resentful.

I hate the fact that any of the above bother me at all. I thought I was chilled until I started answering this post.

Arghhhhh.

Reading through this thread has just reminded me of another one of my pet hates.

Swearing

It is so common these days, I hate hearing adults having conversations when every other word is F this and F that. especially if CHILDREN  are around. And my poor dad nearly drops to the floor if he hears a woman swear. In all my 36 years, I have never heard my dad swear once. I am sure he did but never infront of his girls.

Stange about parents, Sam. I was shocked to learn that my Dad swore when he was with his mates in the pub. Phil told me that he did when he went with him to the local one night. I have never heard him and found it hard to believe.

My Mum was mortified when she told me she used the F word when someone broke into her house when she was 83. She had never used it before and it really upset her.

One of my pet hates as I work in a supermarket are people who have conversations on their mobile phones, whilst I am serving them! I would love to be able to say to them I will serve you when you have finished your conversation. Sadly I can't do this, but this type of behaviour is so indicative of how we are breeding a nation of ignorant and selfish morons. Sorry but that feels better now I have said that.
Sue.

Well I hate lateness, find it very rude and my best friend bless her is always late!

I hate opening doors for people and they don't say thank you so I say loudly "thank you" to them!

Oh and letting people out of junctions when I'm in the car and they don't acknowledge me, once I again I put my hand up to thank them!

One of the things which comes out from all the above, is that as we go about our daily lives, we are all probably inclined to think that we do things 'the right way'...but may irritate others immensely. And the things they do which annoy us, they probably don't give a moment's thought to.

The reality is that there are so many things in life which each of us could get really het up about...but in the whole scheme of things they're not really important. Having a terminal illness and a finite existance - or knowing a family member that has - now that really is worth worrying about, and puts everything into perspective. So, enjoy life while you can...and stop worrying about things which aren't really important!!  Lloyd

Lisa, apparantly I do too now

Lloyd, how true. In the last 6 months my FIL has been diagnosed with the onset of alzhiemers (spelling?) and my lovely dad has developed angina. So who really cares about the other stuff.

Oh but by the way, if your dog s***s on my drive, I will follow you home and post it through your letterbox  Honestly  (in a plastic bag obviously!)

Anyone get narked by a neighbour's cat roaming in their garden?

I know exactly what you mean, I'm a bit like that! I am generally a pretty sociable person but have to admit I do like it to be on my terms - I have a bit of a thing about spending time with people who I know don't appreciate it, and i was never one for doing things out of a sense of duty either.

Sounds a bit strange reading that bit back, but it's the best way I can think of to explain it!

I'm ok once they're here but I'd feel much better if they'd have the decency to tell me they were coming!

I think I agree with you there Molly - years ago we could just pop round to see our friends on the spur of the moment / off chance - and were always made welcome... and we did the same when they called over to us :D
Nowadays it's not really acceptable - but I do feel a bit sad about that....
Pet hates....
Bad manners in supermarkets, i.e. staff who ignore me and people who 'push in'
Drivers using mobiles
Badly behaved children (although I do consider the parents to be at fault)
People who are unreliable
Arrogance
Greed

pet hate?

people who live here and don't speak a word of Greek except "yazoo" (sic), and think the Cypriots don't like any Brits!

state-run Greek classes are about £2 a week, and worth every penny; not just in the vocabulary and grammar you learn, but in the respect you gain within the community in which you've chosen to live...

Imagine your UK life if all your foreign neighbours refused to learn English?

oh God, I'm off on one again! :soap
