Paphos People

I was contemplating this over the weekend, sitting out on my balcony, with the sun on my face, a nice glass of wine by my side, my lovely wife for company and a good book to read, and I figured you know what, I think this is about as good as it gets!

It's all too easy to get caught up in day-to-day trivialities, maybe trying too hard to find happiness by pursuing wealth, fame, possessions or whatever, but ultimately I reckon it's all about just savouring those moments when you're feeling content that all is well with the world.

It's one of the main things I came to Cyprus for, being able to reclaim possession of the space inside my own head, and right now I'm thinking it was mission accomplished!

Anyway, sorry to interrupt, just felt like sharing - back to work everyone!

Good point.

I have days when I think I am the luckiest person alive with the sun shining the housework done and a RAC in my hand with a good book sitting in the sunshine.

I like to think i know the meaning of life but then when we move over our thoughts no doubt will change again.

I love being in Cyprus as i am at my best and more relaxed and content with life when im there. Being single gets pretty lonely here but i can honestly say that it doesnt bother me out there.

23 days and counting now to my better way of life!!!!

We've only been here since September and we feel wonderfully content. When life is busy with work and all, we take the time out to drive to the Akamas or to Troodos to stop and take in the beautiful views. This replenishes our souls with the contentment that gets us through those busy days.

It's so nice to hear thanks! That is exactly why we are moving out, its what we want for us and our children.

Since we set our date, anything material means nothing to me anymore. I'v come to the conclusion that, we have so little to fulfil our lives in this country, what with all the hours we have to work, the bills, crime...you get the picture, that we surround ourselves with 'nice' things and 'gadgets' to compensate.

I want a basic life again with no expectations...

Exactly right! I heard modern life in the UK described somewhere (can't remember where!) as "A load of people working stupid long hours doing jobs they hate in order to buy a load of stuff they don't need"

what is it about sunshine that puts you in the mood for contemplating?
Like CF I do it..

When the sun is out I sit outdoors and some days I think you know what, things arent so bad... the sun's shining, Im healthy(over my man flu now- yes women can have that complaint too, ok so it was a bad cold but it felt worse!!), most of the time Im happy, I do pretty much as I please, I value the friends I have, I eat well so all in all my worlds a nice place. The only thing missing is my lovely bloke but that will be resolved soon.

In my humble onion(I typed that 3 times by accident so decided to leave it) ... you do need to just free your mind and think of the positives. Each of us has our own problems and so what if you dont have as much money as your friend/neighbour/bloke in the pub, or you dont have the latest gadget or wear designer clothes - at the end of the day if you look within and you are content with what you have then why look for something that can be purchased in order to fulfill an empty space?

This however is not applicable to lipgloss - I can NEVER have enough of those!

CF, contentment is illusive to many people, but it is the thing that is more valuable than monetary wealth.

Peace of mind, contentment, being happy with what you have and what the world around you sets before you - money can't buy any of it.

I have more wealth than I can count. But it is not monetary. It is spiritual wealth, and I wouldn't swap it for anyone's index linked pension or a gold clock.

Sam, you can also - carefully - edit within the quote box, so that you only quote the relevant expression, sentence or para you wish to...and not the whole text.
