Hi all

Not being a fan of all things domestic, I had been thinking, mulling over, pondering and planning having a spring clean until yesterday(took me longer to think about it than do it) and Im half way through having a massive clear out and clean up.

Anyway, the point is - Oh is that better!! I really didnt need the stuff I was convinced I couldnt live without and I feel all at peace with myself for actually starting it. Ok so Im not done yet but oh does it feel good.

Do I need to get out more? YES. But not until I've finished it...

Which leads me to think.. what domestic chore do you hate more than any other?
Mine is ironing. Im leaving that til last...

For me it's definitely cleaning the oven. Reason ......... not good at elbow grease as elbows and back both object painfully! Cest la vie

I have equal levels of antipathy towards most household tasks, but I reserve particular loathing for mopping floors - I always seem to manage to keep walking over wet bits, then having to mop them again, etc. etc - seems to take forever! :(

Cleaning the oven (top of my list) - closely followed by cleaning toilets and windows, which always look smeary no matter what I use.

I don't mind any of them once I get started but its getting me started is the problem

Its probably my military training that taught me how to do them all but its the Lay-z-Buoy in me that stops me from gettng off my backside & doing them but once I do, I'll do anything, clean the pool, make the fire, clean the fishtank, hoover the floors, mop, iron, washing, etc etc :D

The only thing I don't do but can, is cook, I could survive but I hate preparing food, I prefer something quick & easy, as I see food as a source of survival, not something you spend hours pawing over just to eat it :D

By the way Piglet, dont do too much Spring cleaning until youv'e checked the Coptic Chart.

You dont want to do all that work and then get the Coptic winds dirtying it all again.

I use Oven Pride - which just melts the dirt off my oven and I love to just rinse the shelves under a tap and watch them come up all shiny. No elbow grease required.

And I iron to Jeremy Kyle, so I don't notice the ironing pile going down as I am always much more amazed at how people can sit and air their dirty linen in public.

I am not keen on any domestic chores really. Just do them out of necessity because for me a tidy house equates to a tidy mind.

Oh no, not more coptic stuff Molly! :(

Ah well, Im agreeing with Verity on the tidy house/tidy mind theory as I do mentally feel this is a good thing. I love being indoors and as Im home alone at the moment I tend to be rather sloppy at keeping to a routine so I had got to the point when it HAD to be done.

Good job blokey is house trained as he's offered to take over the role of domestic goddess(well that'd make him domestic god then wouldnt it? :? ) once he's back over here. Can't remember if I misheard "I don't mind doing my fair share" and interpreted that as "yes, I'll gladly do it all my love, you just put your feet up"

Right, back to the chores while Im in the mood.

Spring Clean - that's my first job when I've retired. Working 5 days a week 9 - 6 means I'm knackered! Weekends I do tidy up and "tickle round", but as for a good "bottoming" I just don't have time. So, when I've retired, that's it - full spring clean mode. I'm going to look like the Clampitts! Everything (except bed) from my bedroom is going out of the patio doors, and I want to steam clean the floor and windows, wash the curtains, and generally give the place a good "seeing to". Then I'll probably have to take to my bed for a week to get some energy back

When my cousin got married, she pressed her husbands trousers inside out - hence the crease was inverted - she never pressed his trousers again

Another friend of mine, when she got married, pressed four creases into her husbands trousers - again, last time she did them.

One good thing about not going out to work is that you can be your own boss, you decide what to do and what to leave for another day. This will all change once we get to Cyprus becasue Brian is starting a business and I will be expected to help, so I will have to make sure that the household chores are shared!

Changed my opinion of ironing when I read someone's interpretation, that it's like smoothing out the creases in life!

I dislike cleaning out the fridge or freezer, but wuld not let it get like my sister's fridge, often saw mouldy stuff at the back! Yuk!

Every night for the past week I have thought about spring cleaning and decided I would start in the morning.

Guess what I am going to do tomorrow - spring clean - well I'm thinking about it.

I hate ironing. Given up worying about being tidy thanks to Steve, although my idea of tidy is shove everything either in a drawer or cupboard. Must admit the "Perfect Housewife" has made me feel guilty on a few occasions recently.

Well Martin, a man who irons and cooks, AND likes the odd Jeremy Kyle show. You are a veritable gem.

no i'm serious!

i'm out at work six days a week, i genuinely enjoy the time i spend with my wife, and would prefer to get someone in to do it.

in the UK we used to get ovenclean four times a year; i just wondered if anyone did it here!

And so modest, too.

If there isn't an oven clean company out here some enterprising person could start one. I would use one - even though I love my Oven Pride.
