I have heard of a couple of cricket teams in the area, but I don't think it's massively popular over here.

I like watching the game, but haven't played much since my college days, so would probably struggle to even pick a bat up the right way these days!

One thing I did play quite a bit of was "kwik cricket" when I was in Australia for a year - that's a good way of getting people involved who may not have played much, but you need indoor nets, which I'm not sure if anywhere has over here?

Hi NW,

The majority of Cricket on island is played at Happy Valley, Episkopi. This is between Service Teams and mostly Asian teams from Limassol, Nicosia and Larnaca. Some of the standards are very good.

Cyprus has a thriving youth cricket community which I have helped out with in the past and have been asked again. I am a qualified coach and they do run coaching classes every year if you (or anyone else) is interested.

The Youth/Childrens cricket coaching usually starts around March and is really good fun. A lot of girls go as it is mixed sex.

If you are interested in playing, I play for the WSBA team which is a mix of Military and Ex-pat's. Net Practice again usually commences around March. We sometimes get teams come over from UK for a quick tour before their season starts and in September when it ends.

Regards,

Ian :D
