Thanks, Pat :help

Well.. I can honestly say, I have been asked
thousands of questions about cyprus, but I have never
been asked about free range chickens
Do you want them dead, or alive ? :D
I will ask around ..

Hi Pat
Theres a place out by the airport - Loukaides(prob spelt that incorrectly) Chicken farm.

Friends of mine have a food place and they get theirs from there and highly recommend it. I'll see if I can find some directions etc and check the name

I've just been to a butchers in Paralimni (the one that 'everyone' goes to) and asked if they sold free range chicken and was told no.

The butcher (who is British by the way) treated me like a stupid little woman, saying 'Well it tastes the same' and when I said that I wasnt comfortable with the way non-free range chickens are reared he said 'you're not in the UK now' -

Obviously there will be farm type outlets that will sell free range, but I work 24/7 and havent got time to shop apart from the odd local shop and supermarket dash.

We did get some nice free range eggs - I'll have to try to hatch them out :D

According to their web page, Comet Farm Ltd is the only poultry company in Cyprus which is hygienically approved by the Cyprus Government, the Greek Government, the British Army and the U.S.A. Ministry of Defense.

However, it does not mention free range anywhere!

Forgot to thank everyone for their interest and replies before. It looks as though free range isn't a concept they bother with here as they dont seem to have battery hens anyway.

We have bought chickens from Loukaides and Comet farm ones in supermarkets. They are much cheaper buying direct from the farm, as are eggs.
Our turkey at Christmas came from Loukaides. A turkey crown had been ordered: which we received, a turkey with both legs chopped off, which was really difficult to balance in a roasting tin.
However, it was delicious, nowhere near the amount of water in as a British product.
