As some of you know i hoping to start my business up very soon in april/may. I need to find staff to help me run my business and need to know what pay would they expect in cyprus. At the moment i have 2 staff on commission here in the uk, and they take anything from £400 to £500 per week sometimes more for 30hrs per week give or take.

What would be a fair pay to someone in cyprus?Would commission or a fixed wage be better. Is there such a thing called minimum wage in cyprus???.

Just one more thing please do any off you know if the red speed boat in paphos is up and running again, the owner is the aussie man marios i think his name was. I have tried to ring him but his phone been cut off or he dropped it in the sea

I saw the boat in the harbour last week..
you will find that in jan-feb most of the water sports guys are closed , In fact most of them are on a beach in thailand for them months so I would guess he is away on hols (just a guess)
I would go with the commision rather than a wage , but the average monthly wage here is about 600-650 per month ..

No minimum wage here Mark but the average wage is around €4-€5 per hour depending on what you want to pay

Is there plenty of people looking for work in cyprus in april.Would it be hard to find someone to do the work ??? I was thinking off renting an apartment in paphos and get some people over for a working holiday?. They have rent free accommodation and a pay each week. I not sure how easy it would be to get staff in paphos area.

you could always advertise your job on our forum, but there are quite a few people over here looking for jobs, especially during the summer months

I shall do that Pete. I use your forum first to see if i get any Response. I should know in march if we get the go ahead.I have been told over the phone there should be no problems and everything will be ok. But i have heard this soooooooooooo many times before so i not holding my breath. I need to know in march so i can ship my unit over for april trading. So fingers crossed

I thought I read somewhere there is a minimum wage now in line with the EU, but I can't see the Cypriots taking much notice of that for some time to come. It was very low anyway and irrelevant I think

Wages here are not great, I'm working as an Office Manager for just under €700 per month for 42 hour week which is below average. I'm pretty sure the average is about €800-850 but you have to take what you can get (I'm promised a pay rise but not holding my breath). Commission is OK for some people but others need a regular wage, it depends on circumstances doesn't it.

My friend was offered a job - six days a week, 10 hours a day for 500 euros a month.

Of course she declined it

If you offer a decent wage, you will get lots of applicants.

Forgot to say, if it's the same chap as the Tiger Boats (definitely a thrill ride) he does other things during the winter months and will return as the tourists do in March/April. Don't know about his phone number as mine (with his number on it) was stolen in the UK before we left (as if I needed another reason to emigrate)

The last I heard was the minimum wage here was CYP3.60 per hour - tell that to Cypriots who expect you to work for way below that.

My last paid job as Practice Business Manager was CYP550 a month but was working 12 hour days for that and sometimes on a Saturday.

I earn 500CYP or 850euros per month - that's for a minimum 40 hour week, 5 days 9am - 6pm, 1 hour for lunch. But only for another 12 days

hi mark, if you want to keep that wage low and profit high, why not have a figure above which all the staff get a bonus, based on how many hours they've worked during the month? it makes them work harder, stops them going sick, and as long as you aren't unrealistic about it, they push your business foward for you!

I do some part time work (just a few hours each day Mon - Fri) and negotiated an hourly rate of Cy£4 so I suppose, if you work that out pro-rata for an average working week - I don't seem to be doing too badly

Jules......... be VERY proud of your negotiating skills as that translates to €6.83 per hour, I'm getting a lousy €4 (CY£2.34) so if there is a minimum wage of CY£3.60 I'm well below that!

My negotiations for a promised pay rise at the end of this month will be interesting
