Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good English guy (or Girl!) to do MOT's?
As we've heard a lot of the locals can rip off us Brits, charging for unnecessary work.

We've just been granted Duty Relief, after being here 2 years and need to sort the MOT to get it registered!

Any advice or guidance would be appreciated!

Thanks

We take our car to Gems - going towards St. George's and are very pleased with him.

Captain,

Although I too live in Peyia, I don't think I'm your wife, as my hubby is right next to me and has not joined this forum yet!!!

Lol.

Thanks for all your help guys! Much appreciated!

& Pete, you may remember Mark and I, as we bought a Lazy Buoy tub from you not too long ago, and all our curtains and poles from your lovely misses, Jackie!!!

Fiona.

 Only kidding, my other half is already posting on here, just worried she may have found another pseudonym, as shopping is most definitely her favourite thing!

Come to think of it, think I'd better keep you 2 apart!

You could always go to the MOT testing station on the Polis Rd as they only do the test. You have to get the repairs done elsewhere and return. It means they don't have an interest in how much repair is needed.

Just come back from Gems and had the car MOT'd, passed thank God. Very good quick service only took 15 minutes. He confirmed no need for disc on windscreen anymore.

The so called MOT here is a joke.
I too went to GEM this week and stayed and watched what was "checked"
The car was put onto the suspension vibrator which checks the efficiency of the shock absorbers.
The brakes were then Checked using the brake efficiency device.
Then the emissions were checked.
Passed!!!!!

NO checks were done on.... Lights, Tyres, steering, chassis, seat belts, horn, or any of the other hundreds of things that should be checked to ensure road worthiness.

Upon returning home I decided to take a look under the car myself. I found at least 3 items that would have constituted a fail in the UK. Two of them serious faults that compromise the safety of the vehicle.

If vehicles are going to be subjected to a test then that test needs to be comprehensive. Not the joke it is here.

Based on what I have seen so far I would estimate that at least 50% of the vehicles on the road are in a dangerous condition.

MOTs here do seem a bit pointless. I've heard of cars passing without having a engine.

The chap on the polis road same side as carrefour a little further up only does the MOT so has no interest in doing unneeded works, he failed a local guys 4 x 4 when I was there and the expeletives were being flung about, but no certificate.
