If this confirms one thing that the rest of the world has known for the past few years, it's simply that he his a Championship level striker.

Nothing wrong with that. Maybe he realises it too now.

Who was that foolish chap who once dared question the impartial, unbiased footballing views of a Newcastle fan upon his own team?

Top of the league though :congrats

Indeed, although the last couple of victories have only been by a single goal margin due to the absence of Ameobi.

Here's a fun Shola-themed quiz question:

Q. Who has made the most appearances in European club competitions?

Is it:

A. sunderland association football club

Or:

B. Shola Ameobi?

It's nice to see you fight back Martin, I've had it all my own way for far too long.
Remember you are drinking fizzy pop and we are drinking champagne.
I see Amoeba is on his bike, is that wishful thinking ?
Gary :greetings

ooh, it's good, but it's not right!

That's right Fact Fans, the correct answer was in fact:

B. Shola Ameobi.

In his 8 years as a Newcastle player, super Shola, or "Goaleobi" as he's known to his team mates, has appeared 36 times in European club matches, averaging 4.5 a year.

Meanwhile, in their 130 year history, sunderland association football club have managed 4 appearances, averaging only 0.03 games a year.

This makes Shola Ameobi approximately 150 times more powerful than the combined output of every single player to ever play for sunderland association football club.

This makes Shola happy.

Have you been on the Broon Ale ?
You were experts at getting in through the back door and you devalued the once mighty European Cup.
What about the present ?
What about the future ?
The future is bright,
It's red and white !

Don't you be trying to derail my Shola tribute thread with your mackem bitterness! Just because he's scored more goals in Europe than your whole measly club put together!

Anyway, back to the quiz - question 2:

Q. Who has the most recently scored a hat-trick of goals in a game of football?

Is it:

A. Any player who plays for sunderland association football club

or

B. Shola Ameobi?

Last week quite a few players from Sunderland AFC played Premiership football( and triumphed 4 goals to 1 )
When was the last time Shola Amoeba played in the Premiership ?

You're not allowed to include goals from 3 different players - that's not how a hat-trick works!

You're up very early this morning?

Martin, that was not early for me. I'm up at 5.40am every weekday in the summer and 6.10am in winter.
Still toiling in the UK.

Super Shola on his way to the World Cup!

Quote:
Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi could be in line for a shock World Cup call-up - with Nigeria.

Ameobi, 28, has represented England at Under-21 level but is eligible to play for Nigeria after being born and spending the first six years of his life in the African country.

Nigerian FA chiefs have tried to call him up in the past and Ameobi admits he would jump at the chance to represent the country at next summer’s World Cup and the African Nations Cup.

I am afraid - we are winning quite well without him!

It says something about us when the Toon Army are pleased to see him back! However, if he continues with his goal scoring record for another 6 matches before he gets injured again, as he surely will, we will be happy.

Yes and a great goal too! He does have the talent, but his application leaves a lot to be desired. Good to see Ranger get his first goal - I think we will now see him get a lot more - he is a really good prospect. Bet Joe is still moaning about the quality of football.

PS why is it being classed as a record 7-game run? Surely our record is 11 consecutive games under the Messiah?

Martin,

Kissonerga or Marios for the Christmas games?

Joe will still be complaining if we're promoted by Easter! :D

We're heading down the George for the smogs next weekend, and probably make a day of it in there on Boxing day as we're the early kick-off! Give us a shout if you want a lift...

Have you noticed how Shola used to be the biggest donkey in the history of the Mags, now he is their saviour and should be on the plane to South Africa next year. What short memories they have.

Cheers

John

Blimey, nearly 2 years in and Gary finally cracks a funny! :D

Roger - I think the references to the current run are that it's the best since KK's side managed 7 in a row in 1996 (included the 5-0 demolition of Man Utd) but you're right they've still got a way to go to match the 11 straight wins he managed at the start of the 1992/93 season - I was at most of those games, and was standing almost exactly level with Jim Dobbin when he unleashed the 83rd minute winner for Grimsby that brought the run to an end.... :(

No worries on a lift for you and your lad - Joe will be back in the UK by then, so plenty room in the car!

Well we've got Shola, Carroll and Lovenkrands who are all OK (jury still very much out on Leon Best...) but I do think a goalscorer needs to be at the top of our summer shopping list - they don't come cheap though, so very much depends on Mr Ashley...

Two of those are injury prone the other may not be running around a football pitch. So yes a striker is a definate priority.
We are selling Daryl Murphy, do you fancy him ?
Please............

Mate he's worth a quarter of your whole club. Think about that.
Your whole transfer budget couldn't buy him.
However, we do have David Healey on offer.

Actually, and I know you won't want to hear this and will accuse me of arrogance or whatever, but if and when we get promoted we'll actually be in a far healthier financial postion than your lot - apparently your wage bill is one of the highest in the league at 78% of turnover while ours is now down below 40% of a Premier League income, with more high earners out of contract in the summer - anything over 50% is regarded as unsustainable.

Add in that we have higher crowds and will make more from corporate sponsorship & I can see why Niall Quinn has been begging people to buy season tickets, as he knows the top dog status can't last long on an even playing field.

We both have billionaire owners, but I believe yours has made it clear he won't be putting any more personal funding in any more than ours will?

That is complete tosh and you know it.
For a start, the only reason Hughton is getting a small war chest is that the payment your club will receive for being in the Premier is going straight into Ashley's pocket.
You don't even own your ground. Your training facilities are laughable. The worth of your squad is laughable, in fact....................... You are laughable.
Now I don't have time for this, I'm off to see the lads right now.
Haway Haway Haway !!!

10 goals in 10 starts for Super Shola this season, and another unluckily ruled out last night. Only injuries have prevented him from shattering all sorts of goalscoring records.

Premier League defences have had some respite this season, but now the Ameobi-machine is back with avengeance!

Kept up his clinical spot-kick record last weekend - has never missed a competitive penalty for Newcastle, just what you would expect from such a dead-eyed assassin.

Surely worth taking to the World Cup on that record alone??
