On May 21st ...people will be able to sit outside cafe bars for a drink and something to eat

My question is

Should smokers and vapors be allowed to smoke and vape around other people?
When... to smoke and vape...they have to suck the cigarettes or vape into their lungs
Keep it there for their Nicotine hit and then blow that smoke /vape out everywhere

Covid Virus as we all know is airborne, attacks the lungs and is highly contagious

Some people are silent carriers of this virus

Would any of us now feel safe sitting at tables near to smokers / vapers?
Or should they just smoke and vape in their own homes?

There are several current studies that indicate that 'smokers' as less likely to contract Covid 19
It may seem counter-intuitive, but last week, a group of researchers in France; Germany and the USA discovered regular smokers may be less susceptible to catching Covid-19.

If the 'social distancing' is maintained, will it make a difference?

You could be sitting beside a non smoker who could still in theory pass it on by breathing / coughing / sneezing

It is not often that we eat out. However, whenever we do, we choose very carefully where we sit. Then we sometimes move as a smoker lights up or someone starts to cough. We have been like this well before the COVID-19 came along. So for us it will be same as normal.

The WHO by the way disagree with the newspapers and media who are giving out reports that smokers are safe

They are saying that smokers themselves for various reasons are more prone to Covid 19

Personally for us...anyone who is taking anything deep into their lungs and blowing out that smoke into the air around everyone that has been deep into their lungs....is far more dangerous for everyone ...including the poor staff serving them

If they did want to vape or smoke ...why not walk away to a quiet spot outside...away from where everyone is...on their own... to do this ?

If someone was coughing and sneezing we would cover our faces and leave immediately

From the answers...another reason whilst we will be staying home for the foreseeable future

The other issue with smokers and vapers is that a number of them think they are being considerate to the people they are with by turning their heads and blowing the smoke/vapour over people at adjoining tables.

On that basis, my feeling is that the risk is greater from smokers and vapers as they are less considerate to those around them.

Apparently the belief that smokers are less at risk from contracting Coronavirus is total tripe!! It was probable FAKE NEWS planted by a tobacco company!

I think there was some evidence that nicotine may be helpful against the virus NOT smoking it but they were considering testing nicotine patches on people.

On a positive note...I have heard from a smoker
Who has said thank you for my posting
Because they said that they had not thought about the deep breathing deeply in and out of smoke possibly hurting people

They said that when things open up on the 21 st May that they where quite happy to go to the car park to have their smoke so as no to hurt someone else

Mmmmm,you now have me confused,,28 studies have shown that regular smokers are at less risk than none smokers.But you say its tripe..who should i believe

Actually ...you smokers can think what ever you want to think on wether or not you will catch this dreadful virus disease or not

We are all open to catching this disease ...including smokers...who again foolishly think that they are in this instance ‘healthier’ than non smokers

And smokers ...you also can and do catch the virus like non smokers
And when you do catch it...you are far more likely to get more seriously ill and need intubation

But my question was not about if you where healthier or non healthier in catching and passing on this terrible virus disease

It is about smokers sucking their smoke and vape deep into their lungs and then blowing that smoke filled air all around us, for people to breathe in. No one at this time wants to be breathing in anyone’s air ...least of all a deep lung full of someone’s air that is carried further with their smoke

Stay safe out there as we are still hitting 6-7 new virus cases per day

The virus has not gone away at all but we are all going to have to get used to living a different way until a vaccine is sorted out

If God forbid I was to catch it and was taken into hospital to be ventilated, PLEASE don't let this be the last image I see

I don't see a problem - if it bothers you that much then stay away from smokers and vapers.

We also have to take some responsibility for our actions - cannot expect everyone else to dance to our tune, especially as Covid-19 is going to be around for some time.

I have no arguments with any of you

My only concern ...is to get safely through the next few months until a vaccine is sorted and I can move freely again virus free

And also to see Cyprus have as least as possible in new cases...and as small a rise in cases as the lock down eases. Otherwise we are being told that the lockdown will be harder and tighter next time.

Same ideals as everyone else really
We all want to get through as easy as we can in one piece

Me too. I know some people won't be happy with me saying so, and I know there are some exceptions, but smokers/vapers generally are very selfish people with little thought for others, smokers or otherwise.

I always sit as far away from the smokers/vapers as I can, but it is amazing how far the smell can travel. It means that eating out is no longer a pleasure, which is a real shame.

Yes even before covid we have had many a meal ruined from smokers and vapers ....tables away when sat outside in the summer months...when you have awful lung issues ...the last thing you want is to breathe in is their smoke

But this for me is worse ...because their smoke traveling around ...could be carrying the covid virus ..and that for us is deadly

We don,t wear masks when out shopping to stop breathing in peoples breaths ...to sit their enjoying a lovely drink and meal ...to breathing in peoples lung filled exhalations!

And we can,t eat and drink inside ...we all have to be outside
Maybe cafes / Resteraunts will make true non smoking and smoking sides well away from each other

My heart still goes out to the waiters and waitresses who have to work and walk through these smoke plumes

In reality there should be NO SMOKING at all where there is food.

Why stop at food? what about drink or where children are present?
