3 students pool there resources to buy a television and scrape together enough for one at £ 48 that is £ 16 pounds each. As they are carrying it up the road the dealer realises that the one they bought should only have been £ 40 so he sends his lad after them with £8. With an eye to the main chance and seeing as there are 3 of them he decides just to give them back £ 2 each and keep £ 2 for himself.
So now they have paid £ 14 each and he has £ 2, but £ 14 x 3 is
£ 42 plus the lads £ 2 = £ 44 How is this ?

You've added the extra 2 quid on instead of taking it off.

The new price of the telly is 40 - they've paid 14 each, which totals 42, so the lad has pocketed the extra 2.

Easy mistake to make! :wink:
