That when you moved to Cyprus you would look gorgeous all the time cos you would be tanned, and you would be slim because you were eating so healthily?

But have you instead found that you have put on the Cyprus stone, your hardly ever tanned cos you avoid the sun and you are spotty all over cos of the mozzies?

Have I painted a picture for you?

Sorry to say I've lost 17lbs & have quite a good all year round tan

As i've started eating sensibly & have olive skin anyway from the time I served here, so tan quite nicely, even in this weather

I can only imagine it's something to do with those scrummy cakes you make!!!

I've stopped eating crisps, most processed foods, fizzy drinks and don't eat as many takeaways since I've come over here. I drink about 20 times more water than I did in the UK and fill my boots with fresh fruit and veg. Oh and as I'm designated driver I don't drink very much.

I think I' put on a couple of pounds over christmas but this has definitely got something to with with the M&S Marzipan Fruits my nan sent me, but I'm back to walking everywhere and everything is as it should be again.

But I have to be honest - if some nice person where to open an Indian takeaway in Peyia I promise to be their best customer!!!!

Where are you going wrong? Cut out (most of) the cheap alcohol, stop smoking, don't eat fast foods, chips or crisps and avoid fizzy drinks like the plague.

That really made me laugh, yeah I thought all of that too!! I had visions of me swanning in on a flying visit to my family and friends back in the UK being 3 stone lighter, tanned bearing a passing resemblance to Kate Moss. Don't know why cos I would have to at least grow 6 inches taller, cut a leg off and hang around with a smack head!! Get the London Look my a**e??

I haven't actually put on any more weight here but I know if I can just give up the vino collapso it would help. And as for the glowing tan, well I've seen what the sun did to my patio furniture so I'm going to keep my face out of it and use good old Dove with tan stuff.

So, get the true picture......a short, fat, wino drinker with a face that looks like its been Tango'ed :manic

I initially lost 11 lb when I moved out here. Went back to the UK for a week after three months and put it all back on. Got back here and put on the Cyprus stone. Now I am in between the two.

I don't go in the sun too much in July and August, and try to preserve what bit of good skin I have left.

My problem is that I drink too much. She says as she downs another Bacardi.

KG what makes you think I do all these things a little presumptuous me thinks as you don't know me :?

I stopped smoking 3 years ago, there is no fast food here I would want, I don't have a deep fat fryer, and I have crisps maybe one a week.

I do drink 3 or 4 evenings a week, but then I didn't come her to live in the monastry

I think my problem is I have gone from working 12 hour days on my feet to living the dream

I love walking but my walking partner emigrated to Australia in March, I gained another but she hurt her foot. I joined the gym and manage to only get there once a week because I am one of these people who likes the company when exercising. I don't want to go walking on my own

Billy no mates

I put on a stone and a half when I first arrived here but thankfully that has gone - where I don't know as I still feel rounded. Must be walking for two hours a day with the dogs that is doing it

By the way I drink, smoke and love fry ups.

Not really - if you are putting on weight, you are taking in too many calories for the amount of energy you expend. The items I suggested are the usual culprits that contribute to a couch potato life style. What are you taking for that weight problem? Cake? ;)

Contrary to popular belief I don't consume the cakes I make as they are all made for paying customers.

I have just said my life style has changed radically, I am not denying that, but couch potato? I don't think so, I have an 8 year old daughter who does not sit still for more than 5 minutes.

Thanks for your helpful comments, yet again!

I tell you where I'm sneaky - when I bake biscuits I love to eat the cookie dough that's left over.

Which gym do you go to? I'm going to start going back to the venus beach once a week to begin with for one of the classes. There will just be me and another friend of mine. We're probably going to try for a 6pm class if we can. Let me know if you'd like to come along.

When we are in Cyprus we walk so much more and come back fitter then before but always let it slip when we get home.
Joined the gym back Friday dont know if i will stick it.
Good reson to get a dog when we come out. or we could start a girls walking group  (STOP FOR LUNCH).

Good idea Tricia about a girls walking group, trouble is in the heat of the summer even during the night it is too hot to get going and it would be at a snails pace

Hi peppermint, yes I go to the Venus beach too. When I go it tends to be one of the morning classes. Let me know when you are planning and if hubby gets home in time I can join you.

I did do the moonwalk for breast cancer in London a few years ago and there is an equivalent here, in Larnaca I think. I have tried to drum up a team to do it here but nobody is ever willing to commit to training so I just gave up.

Anyway back to the couch

Let me know about the walk as I'd be happy to do it. Training wouldn't be a problem as hubby and I walk endlessly (no strolling though - good old heart pumping walking).

I'm sure there will be a few more takers for a sponsored walk on the forum - all you dog walkers out there!

Keep me posted.

Can I come? Although not technically a girl, I do like a good long walk! :D

On the general theme of the thread I'm definitely a lot trimmer than when I first moved here, mostly due to increased activity and healthier diet (mainly a lot less junk and processed stuff). I do still drink a canny bit mind, but mainly Keo and that's OK because it's really good for you!

Don't think my aerobic fitness is what it was as I used to play loads of football until my dodgy ankles started giving me gyp, but I try to make up for it with plenty swimming in the warmer months. Overall I reckon the Cyprus lifestyle is pretty good from a health point of view.
